On Tuesday morning I woke up early and had breakfast. At 7:30am I finished, and began the drive west,

out of
Salt Lake City

. By 9am  I was 40 miles East of Wendover and  the landscape on both sides of I-80 had flattened out and began a slow change from a sand color to a dirty white and then to a snow white. YES! I had finally reached the eastern end of the Salt Flats.

At about 9:30am I stopped along the road side to take some photos. I was still 15-20 miles east of the Bonnevile Speedway at Exit #4.

I spend 2 hours there taking photos and shooting video.

Then I drove further west and stopped at a rest stop located about 10 miles east of
Wendover. At the rest stop there is a high lookout platform,

a black sign with info about the salt flats that was installed by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.,
in 1972,
and a basic map of the area on the outer wall of the rest room building.

I spent another hour taking photos and video. Then I drove further west to Exit #4 (4 miles east of WENDOVER). Once off I-80 you will find a gas station & snack&

gift shop.

From there you drive a half mile north in a single lane (each way) road and then 3 miles east.
Then the pavement ends.

There is another sign posted with info about the discovery if the Salt Flats, and some history of the Speedway. There you are located 3 miles out on the Flats.

From that point you may drive onto the salt and follow some orange cones out to the straightway.

I shot more photos

& video.
At 2:30pm I left the area and then crossed into NEVADA  and The Pacific Time Zone at 2:45pm westbound.

So it then became 1:45pm.

I stopped In
ELKO (elev.5067'), for some food. After driving through hot weather and being stopped by the police twice that day, I finally arrived in WINNEMUCCA at 6:50pm.

By Tuesday night I had driven 1828 miles.
