    August 15th 1999 
   On Sunday morning I woke up in ALBUQUERQUE New Mexico. I left the Red Roof Inn Hotel at 5 am. By 5:30 I was at the north end of town and the highway was leading me up and around a mountain. It was still dark and It was raining. It was a sight to see the city lights behind and below me as I was climbing the Mountain. As I approached SANTA FE the sky was clear and began to turn blue from black. As I passed that city the road turned south to take me around a mountain range. When the road turned back north the sun had risen. I stopped in LAS VEGAS New Mexico for a quick breakfast. At 10:30 am I entered Colorado for the first time ever. As I headed north the Mountains were out the drivers window to the west. I stopped in PUEBLO (elev.4662') for fuel. Between 12:30 and 1pm I drove through COLORADO SPRINGS (elev. 6008'). I was to stay over night there, however I drove west on Rte. 24 , to do some exploring. Over the next 3 hours I was climbing as I drove through WOODLAND PARK and LAKE GEORGE. At WILKERSON PASS I was at a peek elevation of 9507'. I then turned back east and began the long dissent down to Colorado Springs. I stopped in Woodland Park for a quick bite to eat, and reached Colrd.Sprngs. at about 7pm. I drove to the local Kinko's to send an e-mail update. At dusk I finally reached the hotel.
