Trump signs Executive Order further Undermining Obamacare

Just this morning Trump spoke about his new executive order that will give us the best Healthcare because Obamacare is so bad. He was so excited about how good this new care is that he almost forgot to sign the Exec. Order and started to walk away. V.P. Pence had to stop him.

From Vox:

With the failure by Republicans in Congress to repeal Obamacare this year, President Trump is taking matters into his own hands, signing an executive order Thursday that targets the health care law.

Trump is asking federal agencies to look for ways to expand the use of association health plans, groups of small businesses that pool together to buy health insurance, and to broaden the definition of short-term insurance, which is exempt from the Affordable Care Act’s rules, administration officials said.

The ultimate impact will depend on any new regulations written as a result of the order, but overall, the Trump administration could make cheaper plans with skimpier benefits more available — and experts worry that will damage the ACA’s marketplaces.

“The president still firmly believes that Congress must act to repeal and replace Obamacare, but before that can be done, this administration must act to provide relief,” Andrew Bremberg, who oversees domestic policy at the White House, told reporters Thursday morning. “We expect these policy changes to potentially benefit tens of millions of Americans over time.”

Policy experts warn that together, these changes could represent a serious threat to Obamacare: Trump wants to open more loopholes for more people to buy insurance outside the health care law’s markets, which experts anticipate would destabilize the market for customers who are left behind with higher premiums and fewer insurers. What you’re witnessing tonight in the United States Senate is the weaponization
of pure, unmitigated greed. Lobbyists are writing the bill in pen at the last minute.
And Republicans are no longer even pretending to care about anyone but the
super rich. What a shameful night.

On Friday, the disputed acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said in a court
filing that she plans to seek a preliminary injunction against rival acting director Mick Mulvaney and the Trump administration. She will file the injuction by Dec. 5.
President Donald Trump named Mulvaney, the White House budget director, as acting director of the
CFPB on Nov. 24. This followed the departure of the director, who had named the agency’s deputy
director, Leandra English, to temporarily succeed him.
A federal judge this week refused to block Trump’s appointment of Mulvaney to lead the consumer
watchdog agency. English, though, is continuing to pursue the issue and indicated in a court filing
she would file a motion of preliminary injunction against Mulvaney and the Trump administration
    by Dec. 5.

Trump Is Not to Blame for the Devastating Republican Tax Bill
They would have passed the same damn thing with any other Republican in the White House.

…This is also why so many longtime conservative fetish objects got stuffed into this big barrel of botulism. Lisa Murkowski’s price was oil drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge. (Murkowski at least struck a hard bargain. Collins got bought off with a promise that there will be no Medicare cuts in the future, which…) There was the comical attempt to slip in an exemption for Christian Hillsdale College, which has rehabilitated its image from the days when its president was accused of having an affair with his son’s wife. This failed because it was too ridiculous even for this bill, but I’m fairly sure it will be back. One amendment failed because it was handwritten and nobody could read it. We all really ducked a bullet there, boy.

The entire process was shot through with a contempt for democracy, and for “regular order,” which suddenly became less important for McCain than it used to be a few months ago. That’s because the bill itself was built on a foundation of contempt for the notion that, in a democracy, we all have a stake in what the government does, and for the notion that we have certain values and principles in common upon which we act. The bill that passed the Senate early Saturday morning has been consistently, wildly unpopular. It passed anyway.

When its full effects descend on the country, there will be a great outcry about how the government is entirely corrupt and about how it has grown so distant from the people it was designed to serve. “Politicians” will be blamed, irrespective of party. “Politics” will be blamed, irrespective of ideology. Alienation and anger will rise and, very likely, another demagogue will appear, more competent than the present one, and he will ride that alienation and anger into power, and the whole thing will happen all over again.

The Republicans will have no problem with that, either. In fact, they’re counting on it.

Separately but Equally, Trump and Netanyahu Undermine the Law to Escape Prosecution

…Both leaders seem to be suffering from an acute condition of l’etat c’est moi,  and even worse. They behave as if their personal fate is far more important than the welfare of the countries the lead. They have impugned the integrity of criminal proceedings and shaken the public’s confidence in impartial investigators, prosecutors and judges. The outrage they have been whipping up among their core supporters against legal authorities pits democratic institutions against sizeable parts of public opinion, creating a crisis of confidence that may very well linger on long after they leave public life…

Why I Think Trump Is Finished (And My Work Is Done)

    By Keith Olbermann

I am confident now, even more so than I have been throughout the last year, that this nightmare presidency of Donald John Trump will end prematurely—and end soon. And I am thus also confident that this is the correct moment to end this series of commentaries.

    The important stuff first.

There are seven routes in front of Trump. Each, inevitably, ends in his impeachment or resignation. The first, the likeliest, became a thousand times more likely with the Thanksgiving news of a possible deal between Robert Mueller and General Michael Flynn…

Sarah Huckabee Sanders Being A Real Poot Lips About Civil Rights Hero John Lewis

…So Sanders opened her mouth about it, and POOT LIPS came out:

“We think it’s unfortunate that these members of Congress wouldn’t join the President in honoring the incredible sacrifice civil rights leaders made to right the injustices in our history,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Thursday. “The President hopes others will join him in recognizing that the movement was about removing barriers and unifying Americans of all backgrounds.”

Dave Weigel already had the only proper reaction to that statement, so we’ll just paste that:

It’s uhhhh unfortunate that John Lewis won’t honor the sacrifices made by…[looks down at notes]…John Lewis.

This country ranks No. 1 for ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ (it’s not America)

    Published: Dec 9, 2017 2:57 p.m. ET

…Norway was No. 1 out of 155 countries on the “World Happiness Report,” up from No. 4 last year, followed by Denmark (last year’s No. 1), Iceland and Switzerland. The U.S. was trailing at No. 14. These four countries rank highly on all the main factors found to support happiness: caring, freedom, generosity, honesty, health, income and good governance…

…The U.S showed less social support, less sense of personal freedom, lower donations, and more perceived corruption of government and business, it said. “America’s crisis is, in short, a social crisis, not an economic crisis… Almost all of the policy discourse in Washington, D.C. centers on naïve attempts to raise the economic growth rate, as if a higher growth rate would somehow heal the deepening divisions and angst in American society. This kind of growth-only agenda is doubly wrong-headed.”…
